The library of Alexandria, often referred to as a museum, was the gathering place of the greatest minds of the world during the time period. It was the only massive collection of written records in the ancient world. It consisted of an estimated 500,000 scrolls which covered everything from maps to personal diaries. The reputation of the library spread throughout the ancient world. Scholars, philosophers and students came from throughout the ancient world to study there. The museum was built under the rule of King Ptolmey and it was clear that he wanted it to be unlike any other library in the world. He wanted it to be the best of the best. The actual building itself was immense and grand. There were many separate rooms that could be used for more secluded studying and even rooms to accomodate the foreign scholars who were using the library.
